An Interface 2.0 Corp blended with CthulhuTech inspiration

This post is inspired by a couple of things, none of which are required to use. The first is the rules on cults that I just finished reading in the Codex Infernus. The second source of inspiration are the Dhohanoids and Tagers from CthulhuTech which I recently started thinking about. These thoughts have been swirling around in my head for the last couple of weeks, and now I finally am at a point where I can put them together. I am going to do this post in sections, the first is the company and their secret weapon, and the second will be an optional cult that runs the corporation.

Ontogensis

The Ontogensis, Inc. is one of the largest corporations involved in genetic manipulation and enhancement. They provide services that range from crop and livestock improvement, to organ cloning and enhancement, to genetic manipulation of humans and the human 2.0 upgrades. There is a cult like following of their goods and services (think Apple in the real world).

What is not publicly known, is that those a fraction of all the employees who work directly for the company are spy on the rest of the employees and work directly with the board to ensure that no one with skills that they wish to keep can ever leave. The other thing that is not known is that the most of the products that they produce have secret surveillance components included that transmit data back to their offices for analysis.

Ontogensis’ biggest secret is that the enforcers and the executive board are no longer entirely human. They have all undergone a genetic treatment/ritual that gives them the ability to switch between a human form and a monstrous form optimized for killing, and this is a secret that the faction stole and has started using on their operatives.

Next are two arcane backgrounds one is for members of the genetically enhanced soldiers and the other is for their rivals. These would be the members of the cult a their rivals if you want to use the cult, otherwise they are just genetically altered beings that are no longer human. When one of the backgrounds are taken, they get a pool of 5 points to spend on buying powers. Once per rank, they can also take the power points edge to gain another 5 points to spend.

Arcane Background: Tubbiq Alklmary
When someone takes this background, they gain the ability to transform into an amphibious squid-like humanoid, a head and body that is made up of a mass of tentacles that can be used to grasp or move them about. All who choose this background get the following powers by default:
Aquatic (Cost 1 Power Point)
Heightened Senses – Low Light Vision (Cost 1 Power Point)
They also have 3 power points to spend on any of the following powers

Power cost
Armor 1 per level up to 5
Extra Limbs – Tentacles 2 per level up to 5
Awareness – Sonar 2
Fear 2 per level up to 5
Regeneration – Natural healing roll every day 1

Note: These powers are only useable after they have assumed their monstrous shape, which takes your action for the round.

Arcane Background: Hayalet
When someone takes this background, they gain the ability to transform into an armored battle form with increased strength and natural ranged and close combat weapons. In the altered form, it is a muscular humanoid covered in chiton plates that are a light grey with red dots that get more prominent the closer you get to the hands and feet. All who choose this background get the following power by default:
Super Agility – + 1 Die (Cost 1 Power Point)
Wall Walker (Cost 1 Power Point)
They also have 3 power points to spend on any of the following powers

Power cost
Armor 1 per level up to 5
Attack Melee – Blades from the hands that do 1d6 damage 1
Attack Ranged – An Electrical discharge that does 1d6 damage 12/24/48 range 1
Fear 2 per level up to 5
Heightened Senses – Low Light Vision 1
Regeneration – Natural healing roll every day 1
Super Agility – Second Die 3
Super Strength – 1 Die or 2 Dice 1, 3
Super Vigor – 1 Die or 2 Dice 1, 3

Note: These powers are only useable after they have assumed their monstrous shape, which takes your action for the round.

Cult of Enlightened Chaos

The Cult of Enlightened Chaos are the people who run Ontogensis. Their goals are to increase the amount of chaos in strife in the world to increase the profits generated by Ontogensis’ products. They are behind creation of and spreading new diseases so that they can sell the cures, altering the soil with their genetically modified crops so that the future crops fail, so that they can sell new and more expensive strains, etc.

The cult is made up of the Executive Board of Ontogensis, and numerous other members of the company that keep an eye on those that have not be brought into the fold.

The cult worships a being referred to as “The Crawling Chaos”. And as part of the rights, it believes that by instigating chaos, they are going to hasten the return of “The Crawling Chaos” who gifted them with the rituals and knowledge to become Tubbiq Alklmary or Hayalet.

Final Note: Neither of the Arcane Backgrounds have been play tested. The Tubbiq Alklmary was inspired by a villanous creature in CthulhuTech, and the Hayalet was inspired by a valid player character option and so it had more details than the first.
