Jumping Cholla

This is a plant abomination that can be used in your Deadlands games and would normally show up in Sothern Arizona or North Western Mexico. While it can not move on its own, it can still cause problems for a posse that comes across one of them unaware. It normally lives among regular Cholla Cactus, maybe one or two of them in a large field. Physically they are indistinguishable from a normal Cholla, but when someone passes within a couple of yards it will attack with the hope of not being noticed and to cause more pain and suffering.

Attributes: Agility d6, Smarts d4 (A), Spirit d4, Strength d4, Vigor d6
Skills: Notice d8, Shooting d6, Stealth d10
Pace: 0; Parry: 2; Toughness: 5

Special Abilities

  • Spine Jump: It can launch a pod of spines at a target. The range of this attack is 3/6/9 and if it hits it deals 2d4 damage.
  • Hide in plain sight: Because it only grows hidden in fields of regular Cholla, the posse must first make a notice roll at -4 to spot which one is the correct one.
  • Unknowing Allies: On any critical failures while fighting in a Cholla field, the posse member accidentally brushes against a regular Cholla and picks up a pod of spines taking 2d4 damage.
