Savage Fantasy Character in SWAdE

Since I just finished reading the SWAdE rules, I wanted to see what the changes in it would do to one of the characters that I am playing using the Savage Worlds Deluxe Explorers Rules. Since the Fantasy game I am playing in is much closer to base rules than the Harry Potter game, I decided to go with it. If you want to read my review you can find it here.

My Character

My character is a dwarven magic smith by the name of Eitri Fireblood. He wants to own his own forge and experiment with the crafting of items that he thinks are useful, not what others want him to make. He currently works in the area of Nottia crafting and repairing items for the locals as he builds up the money needed to set up shop.

Rule tweaks

There are a couple of rules tweaks that we are using for this game. The first is we got two free skill points to use in non-combat character building skills. The second tweak is we are re-trapping the Weird Science arcane background to be a Runic Item Crafting background. With that said here is the character that I made.

Character

Eitri Fireblood
Dwarf

Attributes:
Agility: d6 Smarts: d6 Spirit: d6 Strength: d6 Vigor: d8
Hindrances:
Curious, Quirk (Fondles his hammer), Stubborn
Edges:
Arcane Background Rune Magic (Weird Science), Brawny
Skills:
Athletics: d6, Common Knowledge: d6, Fighting: d6, Knowledge Metallurgy: d6, Notice: d6, Persuasion: d4, Repair: d6, Rune Magic(Weird Science): d6, Smithing: d6, Stealth: d4, Survival: d4
Powers:
Smite (Fire trapping), Burst (Magma erupts from the ground in a cone) (built into his hammer)
Equipment:
War hammer, Medium shield, Toolkit
Languages:
Common, Dwarf, Elf

Ultimately the character’s only changes where an increase in Athletics, and the addition/increase in Common Knowledge and a new starting power. Where the character really starts to change is after it is advanced a couple of times because some of my choices were driven by needs that would not be valid. At his current rank (just after reaching Seasoned) he would end up looking like this.

Character

Eitri Fireblood
Dwarf

Attributes:
Agility: d6 Smarts: d8 Spirit: d6 Strength: d8 Vigor: d8
Hindrances:
Curious, Quirk (Fondles his hammer), Stubborn
Edges:
Arcane Background Rune Magic (Weird Science), Brawny, Power Points, New Powers
Skills:
Athletics: d6, Common Knowledge: d6, Fighting: d6, Knowledge Metallurgy: d6, Notice: d6, Persuasion: d4, Repair: d6, Rune Magic(Weird Science): d6, Smithing: d6, Stealth: d4, Survival: d4
Powers:
Smite (Fire trapping), Burst (Magma erupts from the ground in a cone) (built into his hammer), Deflection (Heat shimmers radiating from his shield), Havoc
Equipment:
War hammer, Medium shield, Toolkit
Languages:
Common, Dwarf, Elf

For the advances, I kept the first one for an increased Strength die type, even though I would not have needed it. I also kept the second one for new powers, but instead of just getting Burst (which I got from my Arcane Background) I got two new powers. The final change was the swapping out of Fleet-footed which I needed in the old system to make my movement reasonable with the load I carry, and change it to extra power points because of the changes in the Weird Science arcane background.

Most of the effort in doing this was to make sure my skill point numbers were correct with the reduced skill points, the altered rules bonus skill points, and the new rules default skills.
